Mike began his horse career very early as his family bred, trained and showed Quarter Horses at their place in Vera, Oklahoma from the time he was about six years old. Mike won his first trophy at about nine years old and has not lost his love of the competition to this date. Showing in Halter, Showmanship and Western Pleasure in the earlier years, it wasn’t long before he decided
that the Halter was his preferred event. Having this show background, obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University, starting his own facility, which included standing four stallions, showing and training for the public, along with working on his father-in-laws registered Herford Ranch helped to round out his equine skills i.e. cutting, roping, reining, etc. Mike applied for and received his AQHA and PHBA judging cards in the early 1980’s and has judged numerous shows literally
all around the World (Canada, Mexico, Panama, Columbia, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, England, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, New Zealand, and Japan) as well as many major shows across the U S A including World Shows and the All American Quarter Horse Congress multiple times.
Mike moved to Texas in 1982 and opened a full time Halter training facility in Gainesville where he has trained and exhibited many AQHA, PHBA, APHA, PtHA, ABRA and IBHA World and Reserve World Champions along with a few National High Point horses. In 2007 Mike and his wife, Amanda moved to Whitesboro, Texas where they are continuing their tradition of having a lot of fun and success
training
and showing Open, Youth and Amateur horses in Halter for their clients and hope to do so for many years to come.
